Maine Arts Camp is cancelling the summer 2020 sessions
We so value and look forward to every summer. For this summer, we felt that the camp experience could provide a much needed respite and escape for all of our camp community (staff and campers). For the last couple of months, we have been working with Maine Summer Camps, the American Camp Association and the state of Maine to create best practices that would enable us to open camp in the safest way possible.
Sadly, the national data over the past few weeks does not show that the virus has slowed enough for us to feel that it is safe to open camp in a way that would still be camp. Trying to run camp while limiting our activities and interactions is not compatible with who we are as a camp community. Although we are disappointed and already missing camp, we very much looking forward to summer 2021! We have a great staff in place, campers excited about joining and rejoining our community, and a breadth of activity offerings that enable our creative campers to thrive.
We are also looking forward to our first summer at Thomas College, as they have already been a good partner for Maine Arts Camp.
We hope that all of you stay safe and that the next few months see the improvements we all hope for so that life can get back to at least a new normal and schools can open in the fall.
