Jennifer Aguirre - Camp Nurse
Jennifer is joining the Maine Arts Camp team this summer with 21 years experience in the
healthcare field. After working as a CNA for several years, she became a Registered Nurse in
2005. Most of her work has been at an acute care inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Portland,
ME. There, she cares for patients who have a range of acute issues as a result of spinal cord
injury, stroke, traumatic brain injury, hip and pelvic fractures, wounds, and debilities from long
term illness such as diabetes, heart disease, respiratory disease and cancer. Since 2014, Jen
has been utilizing the skills she has learned from acute care nursing by incorporating them into
her work as a school nurse at a K-5 elementary school. A big change from adult health, but
she’s become passionate about taking care of the medical and emotional needs that children
often require at school. Jen has taken additional classes to learn more about poverty and its
impact on children at school, the impact of trauma on children, therapeutic crisis intervention
and puberty. Jen lives in Maine with her husband of 22 years, her 2 daughters and her niece.
She enjoys gardening, snowshoeing, day trips and walks along any of the beautiful beaches of
Maine with her dog, Echo.
